BESSIE MAE SMITH SANDERS

ABBEVILLE, AL…  Bessie Mae Smith Sanders, a resident of Abbeville, Alabama, passed away Monday, July 31, 2023, at her home. She was 73.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday August 09, 2023, at Wright Funeral Home & Crematory Chapel with Reverend Joseph N. Flowers officiating. Burial will follow in the Abbeville Memorial East Cemetery in Abbeville, Alabama. The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 09, 2023, prior to the service. Wright Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.

Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to a favorite charity in her honor.

Mrs. Sanders was born to the late Johnny Mack McLeod and Mary Ella Thomas McLeod in Barbour County, Alabama. She was a member of Jackson Chapel Church of God Christ.  She worked and retired from West Point Pepperell.  

Leaving to cherish her memories are her husband, Eddie Lewis Sanders, Sr.; her daughters Bessie Cochran, Gloria Culver, and Mary Sanders (Ike); her step-daughter, Angela Sanders; her sisters, Odessa Rieves, Betty Jean McLeod, Martha Louise Williams (Willie), and Jeanette Glanton; her brothers, Reverend Joseph Flowers (Mary), Johnny B. McLeod, and Love Otis McNeal; her grandchildren, Crystal Culver Richards (Michael), Jerry L. Culver, Jr., Roy Alto Culver, Kiara Stevenson, Amber Stevenson,  Terrance Culver (Reginald), Jennifer Cochran, Jim Cochran, and Jimmy Cochran; her special nieces, Angela McLeod and Teresa McLeod; and her several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; her two special friends, Tina Stanford and Claira Kingsley.

Serving as active pallbearers will be her grandsons.
