HEADLAND, AL… Freddie K. Brannon, a resident of Headland, Alabama, passed away Tuesday night, June 6, 2023, at his home. He was 75.

          Funeral services will be held 4:00 P.M. Friday, June 9, 2023, at Union Springs Baptist Church with Reverend Guy Causey and Brother Henry Fullington officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Pastor Jim Cordes officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Thursday, June 8, 2023, at Wright Funeral Home & Crematory. Wright Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.

          Mr. Brannon was born in the Old Center Community near Newville, Alabama to the late Joseph and Judy Brannon. He was the Salutatorian of the Class of 1965 of Newville High School and an all-sports participant. He graduated from Troy University in 1969 with a Math / Marketing / Business Administration degree. He was a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran earning a Spec 5 rank. After the military, he was a math teacher and an assistant coach at Headland High School for three years. He then became Manager and Co-Owner of Newville Dixie Dandy until he took a position as a Rural Letter Carrier for the Newville, Alabama and Clopton, Alabama offices. During his postal career, he was elected as President of the Alabama Rural Carriers Labor Union, after serving as the District 8 committeeman. After retirement, he even served as Secretary-Treasurer of the approximately 3400 member group. He served on the Henry County CHOICE Education Committee and the Health Authority Committee. He was the winner of the National Peanut Festival Clown School and was later an instructor for several years. He was President of the Wiregrass Jokers Clown Association, a non-profit charitable organization for benevolent needs. He was an active member of the American Legion Bradley-Keller Post 119 of Abbeville, Alabama. His entire life was centered around his love for his Savior, family, church, and country. He was a longtime member of the Union Springs Baptist Church – Newville, a former Sunday School teacher, treasurer and active deacon.

          Leaving to cherish his memories are his wife of fifty-seven years, Wanda Hodges Brannon; his son, Marty Brannon of Atlanta, GA; his daughter, Mollie Goodwin of Headland, AL; his granddaughters, Lily Goodwin of Disney College Program in Orlando, FL, and Layla Goodwin of Headland, AL, and his brother Joseph Randy Brannon (Peggy) of Ozark, AL.

          Serving as active pallbearers will be Jim Laney, Darrell Watford, Sammy Jones, Tracy Jones, Brent Goodwin, Trent Porth, and Brannon Killebrew. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Danny Brannon, Union Springs Baptist Church Deacons & Men’s Sunday School Class, and American Legion Bradley-Keller Post 119.  

          The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. John Peacock, Dr. Krishna Basarokudu, Dr. A. Oliver Sartor, Tulane University, Covenant Care Hospice, and Union Springs Baptist Church family.
