JAMES “JIM” HOWARD MCKNIGHT, JR.
OCALA, FL… James “Jim” Howard McKnight, Jr., a resident of Ocala, Florida, formerly of Headland, AL, passed away Thursday evening, May 29, 2025, at his son’s home. He was 82.
Graveside services with full military honors will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday, June 7, 2025, at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Headland, Alabama, with Dr. Cecil M. Sanders officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Wright Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. McKnight was born in Headland, Alabama to the late James Howard McKnight, Sr. and Frances Laverne Hasty McKnight. He was a graduate of Dothan High School. He served his country during the Vietnam War and retired (US Army Sergeant First Class) from the U.S. Army. After retirement he worked with Wal-Mart in the sporting goods department and at Headland Ace Hardware. Jim had lived in Rayne, LA and Headland, AL before moving to his son’s residence in Ocala, FL., three years ago. Mr. McKnight was a member of the First Baptist Church – Headland.
Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Davis McKnight.
Leaving to cherish his memories are his daughter, Candace McKnight; his son, Tim McKnight (Lena); his step-daughters, Diane Avery (Phillip) and Beth Givens (Mark); his sisters, Diane Adams (Mike) and Nancy Lamon; his ten grandchildren; his eight great-grandchildren; and his several nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Phillip Avery, Tye Avery, Alec Avery, Lee Ross, Mark Givens, Grant Givens, and Tim Grace.
