WALTER SPORMAN KNOWLES, JR.

ABBEVILLE… Walter Sporman Knowles, Jr., a resident of Twin Magnolias Assisted Living in Abbeville, Alabama, formerly of Headland, Alabama, passed away early Sunday morning, June 1, 2025, at a Dothan hospital. He was 79.

No services are planned at this time.

Mr. Knowles was born in Dothan, Alabama to the late Walter Sporman Knowles, Sr. and Ada Lillian Knight Knowles. He lived his entire life in the Headland, Alabama area, until his health deteriorated and had to move into the Twin Magnolias Assisted Living in Abbeville, Alabama. He was a 1964 graduate of Headland High School, where he excelled in basketball and baseball. Sporman took over the water superintendent position for the City of Headland, from his father.

Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sisters, Gayle Knowles Johns and her husband, Maxwell “Clay” Johns and Linda Knowles; his aunt and uncle, Vivian Knight Starling and James Gwynn Starling.

Leaving to cherish his memories are his daughter, Renea Knowles; his granddaughter, Kaitlyn Knowles; his nieces, Nicole Feggins (Charles) and Jessica Melton (Reginald); his great-nieces and nephews, Tanner McClenny, Taylor Feggins, Kinslee Melton, and Blake Feggins; and his cousin, Susan Starling Harman.
